Frequently Asked Questions

Is snorkeling good in Playa del Carmen?

Frankly, no. Although the beaches are beautiful and there are few places with rocks on the coast, snorkeling from the beach in Playa del Carmen doesn't make much sense. While the water has its characteristic Caribbean color and visibility is usually around 5-15 m / 15-45 ft, there is not much coral and marine life near the shore. The reefs are located about 600-900 ft / 200-300 m off the coast at a depth of about 25-36 ft / 8-12 m. It is not recommended to swim out that far and be in danger of being carried by the current or getting into an accident with boats or jet skis.

We hihgly recommend the Protected Marine Park of Puerto Morelos, which we consider as THE BEST snorkeling area the Mayan Riviera has to offer. Located between Playa del Carmen and Cancun it is just a 25 minute drive from either destination. As locals we are enjoying the shallow and colorful reef formation, and its marine life. Next to the beautiful coral formations, many times we encounter stingrays, sea turtles, starfish, lobsters and more.

Is Tulum open now?

Currently the archaologicla site of Tulum is closed!

Usually the opening hours of the archaeological site of Tulum are: Monday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (when the last ticket is sold).
If you book with Kay Tours Mexico, you can cancel for free up to 24 hours before the start date of your tour and still receive a full refund. See all tour options to Tulum.

What's the best way to see Chichen Itza?

It is recommended to arrive early, when the archaeological site is about to open. The best and most comfortable way to do so is with a private tour.
